How the Placement Finder works

This tool ranks Pune colleges by the placement figures they report, and lets you set a minimum package so you only see colleges that clear the bar you care about.

  1. 1

    Choose a stream

Placement figures are only comparable within a stream. An engineering average and an MBA average measure different job markets.

  2. 2

    Set a minimum average package

This filters out colleges below your threshold instead of making you scan a long list.

  3. 3

    Compare the ranked output

Colleges are ordered by reported average package, with CollegePune's recommended picks marked separately from the ranking itself.

What these placement numbers are and are not

  • Figures are what each institute reports for its own placement cycle, as recorded in CollegePune's database.
  • An average package is pulled upward by a handful of very high offers. The median is a better guide to a typical outcome, and it is usually lower.
  • 'Highest package' is one student, often an international or exceptional offer. It says almost nothing about what you should expect.
  • Placement percentage depends on who the college counts as 'eligible' and 'placed' — definitions differ between institutes, which limits direct comparability.
  • Branch matters enormously. A college's overall average blends its strongest and weakest departments.

What each placement metric actually tells you

MetricWhat it measuresHow it can mislead
Average packageMean of all reported offers.A few outlier offers lift it well above what most students get.
Median packageThe midpoint offer.Rarely published — but it is the most honest single number.
Highest packageThe single largest offer that year.Often one student, sometimes an overseas role. Not a benchmark.
Placement %Share of eligible students placed.Depends entirely on how 'eligible' is defined; students who opt out may be excluded.
Recruiter listCompanies that visited.A visit is not an offer, and a name may relate to one intern.

Ask any college for branch-wise median and the eligible-versus-placed split for the last three years. Institutes that publish it are usually the ones worth trusting.

Reading placement claims critically

  • Ask for the number for your branch and your year, not the institute-wide headline.
  • Ask how many students were in the eligible pool. A high percentage of a small pool is a different claim than it appears.
  • Look for repeat recruiters across three years — consistency beats a single marquee name.
  • Weigh the package against total course cost, not in isolation. The ROI Calculator does that comparison directly.

Placement Finder — frequently asked questions

Why is average package higher than what most graduates earn?

Because an average is sensitive to outliers. A small number of exceptional offers pulls the mean well above the midpoint, so a typical graduate usually earns less than the advertised average. Where a median is available, trust it more.

Can I compare an engineering college with an MBA institute here?

Not meaningfully. Filter by one stream at a time — the two hire into different markets at different salary levels, so a cross-stream comparison tells you about the market rather than the college.

Do these figures include internship stipends?

They are intended to reflect full-time offers, but reporting conventions differ between institutes. If a number looks unusually high for the stream, ask the college precisely what it includes.

How current is the underlying data?

College records — fees, courses, accreditation, placement and cutoff figures — come from CollegePune's own published database and are revised as institutes release new information. Always confirm the final figure against the college's official admission notice before you pay anything, because institutes can revise fees mid-cycle.
