How to Read a Cutoff Table Properly

• •Cutoffs are per round. A Round I closing percentile is higher than the Round III figure for the same seat, so check which round a published number refers to.
• •Cutoffs are per category. Reserved-category closing percentiles run materially lower and have their own seat matrices.
• •Home University seats close differently from Other Than Home University seats — for Pune candidates the SPPU home-university seats are the relevant column.
• •The published figure is last year's outcome, not this year's requirement. Use three years of data to see the trend rather than one year.
• •A branch that opened at a low percentile one year often closes higher the next once students notice, so do not plan around an anomaly.
• •Institutional-quota and management-quota seats sit entirely outside the CAP cutoff and follow different rules.

Building the Option Form Around Your Percentile

1. 1.List every college-branch pair you would genuinely attend, then sort them by true preference rather than by expected cutoff.
2. 2.Build three bands — reach options two to four percentile above you, realistic options within two points, and safe options five or more below.
3. 3.Put branch before college. If you want software, CSE or IT at a lower-ranked college should sit above a core branch at a higher-ranked one.
4. 4.Include enough safe options that you cannot end the CAP process unallotted; there is no cost to listing more.
5. 5.Understand freeze, float and confirm before Round I allotment arrives — this decision, not the option form, is where most candidates lose a better seat.
6. 6.Track each round's cutoff as it publishes and adjust for the next round rather than waiting for the process to end.

These are the only authoritative figures — third-party compilations, including indicative tables like the one above, are approximations meant for planning. Download the official round-wise PDFs for the last three years, filter to your category and Home University status, and build your shortlist from those. It takes an afternoon and it is the single highest-value thing you can do between the result and the option-form deadline.
