Lists of Pune engineering colleges with cut-offs circulate widely and are usually unusable, for a consistent set of reasons. They quote one figure per college when a college has a different closing for every branch. They omit the category, so an open-category figure is read by a reserved-category candidate or the reverse. They omit the round, mixing a Round 1 closing at one college with a Round 3 closing at another. And they rarely state the year, which is the label that determines whether any of it applies. A list you can actually plan against is one you assemble yourself, and it is not difficult. The Maharashtra CET Cell publishes official round-wise, category-wise closings for every institute and branch code that participates in CAP. Pull the branch you want, in your category, at Round 1, for three recent consecutive years. That gives you a band per college rather than a number, which is both more honest and more useful. What you do with the band is sort colleges into three tiers against your own percentile — reach, realistic and safe — and then convert that into a complete CAP option list in honest preference order. The list is what allots your seat, not the analysis behind it, and the two most common self-inflicted failures are a list that is too short and a list ordered strategically rather than truthfully. Neither costs anything to avoid.
⚡ Quick Answer
Build the list yourself from the Maharashtra CET Cell CAP data: your branch, your category, Round 1, three recent consecutive years. That gives a band per college rather than a single number. Then sort colleges into reach, realistic and safe tiers and fill a complete CAP option list in honest preference order.
| Problem | Consequence |
|---|---|
| One figure per college | Ignores that every branch closes differently |
| No category stated | Reserved candidates self-eliminate unnecessarily |
| No round stated | Mixes Round 1 and Round 3 across colleges |
| No year stated | May predate several seat matrix changes |
| Marks instead of percentile | Not the unit CAP allots on |
Whether the college is worth attending. Add the four-year fee total including residence, the branch-wise placement record rather than the institute figure, and the approval and affiliation status before ranking anything. A college that closes higher is not automatically the better outcome — the aided colleges in the state-regulated fee band frequently beat private universities on outcome relative to cost.
