The Management Aptitude Test is conducted by the All India Management Association and is among the most accessible national MBA entrance examinations in the country. It is approved by the Ministry of Education as a national-level test and its scores are accepted by more than 600 business schools, including a large number of AICTE-approved PGDM institutes. What sets MAT apart is flexibility. It is held four times a year, in February, May, September and December, and each cycle is offered in three modes: a Paper Based Test, a Computer Based Test at a centre, and an Internet Based Test taken remotely under proctoring. Candidates may sit for more than one mode within a cycle to improve their score, and institutes accept the best result. The paper carries 150 questions across five sections of 30 questions each, to be attempted in 120 minutes. Results are reported as five sectional scores plus a Composite Score on a scale of 200 to 800. The Economic and Business Environment section, although attempted, is excluded from the composite calculation used by most institutes for shortlisting.
